The Music Therapist plans, organizes, develops and implements music therapy programs in the inpatient/outpatient settings, the scope of practice will include the entire continuum of patient care, as well as therapeutic intervention for our employees, volunteers and medical staff. The Music Therapist meets the psychosocial needs of patients and families through the application of principles and methods of music therapy which include alleviating pain in conjunction with anesthesia or pain medication: elevating patients' mood and counteracting depression; promoting movement for physical rehabilitation; calming or sedating, often to induce sleep; counteracting apprehension or fear; lessoning muscle tension for the purpose of relaxation, including the autonomic nervous system; and facilitating communication.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of music therapy services, programs, and be familiar with the requirements of the Standards of Clinical Practice as established by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop individual music therapy plans of care, knowledge of therapy and quality tracking metrics and know a wide variety of music therapy techniques and tools.
