External Description:

The Computer Operator I, under general supervision and according to established policies, procedures and equipment operating instructions, operates computer and peripheral equipment to complete scheduled jobs in a timely manner and monitor systems for performance, functionality and connectivity. The essential functions of the Computer Operator include the following:

�  Prepares reports, special forms and mail for distribution to the appropriate departments. May assist with the print and tape functions when required.

�  Monitors and diagnoses system problems, resolving problems according to established policies and procedures.

�  Assists users with terminal and system problems. Maintain log of service calls and user requests.

�  Documents all problems (hardware, application, facility, etc). Takes corrective action as required and reports these occurrences to Supervisor.

�  Places equipment service calls to the respective vendors, including appropriate follow-up.

�  Assists with the preparation of the daily shift report. Provides accurate shift information to the appropriate incoming shift personnel, clarifying all outstanding problems and present status.

�  Maintains knowledge of current operating procedures and standards.

The ideal Computer Operator candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
