JOB SUMMARY
The Catheter Lab RN is a licensed professional who has completed additional training in cardiac-vascular nursing and who coordinates patient care delivered by the health care team in a Catheter Lab setting. The Cath Lab RN will utilize the Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) nursing professional practice model,  assess the patient, identify nursing diagnoses based on response to health problems, develop and implement the plan of care and evaluate the patient�s response. During this process, the Cath Lab RN communicates patient data to the health care team, makes recommendations for patient interventions, collaborates with other health care providers to deliver care and documents outcomes. Responsibilities also include creating a plan of care that is sensitive to diversity, age appropriate, individualized to the needs of each patient and promotes safe passage. RN's promote safe passage for their patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients to transition through the healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays. The Cath Lab RN delegates interventions to health care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient�s condition and the competencies of the employee. The RN uses clinical judgment, clinical inquiry, advocacy, caring practices, collaboration and systems thinking in the provision of nursing care and facilitates the learning for patients/families, staff and community through effective teaching.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
The Catheter Lab RN shares accountability for effective decision-making by acquiring necessary skills, mastering relevant content, assessing situations accurately, sharing fact-based information, communicating professional opinions clearly and inquiring actively. The RN participates in quality/performance improvement and Lean initiatives and in all phases of the staffing process from education and planning to evaluation.


KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
The ideal candidate must have strong knowledge of  nursing and patient care standards and procedures,  laws, rules and regulations, guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies, hospital and department/unit standards and protocols, medical terminology, health promotion, risk reduction, illness and disease prevention and management, medications, drugs, common dosages and their physical and physiological effects. The ideal candidate must have communication, written, critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal and comupter skills, and the ability to observe changes in the medical condition of patients. The ideal candidate fulfills and provides proof of, continuing education, licensure, and/or certifications required to remain qualified for this role.

QUALIFICATIONS

- EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program

- EXPERIENCE - A minimum of 1 year experience required

- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
       Registered Nurse (RN)

       Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
