The Surgical Scheduler RN ensures excellence in the clinical and operational process and the delivery of patient care services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Assumes authority and accountability for appropriate clinical nursing practice and patient care processes while delivering high quality patient care. Provides appropriate input, based on clinical expertise, into the formulation of patient care polices and procedures, and implements effective process changes based on identified opportunities for improvement.
Monitors practices to ensure compliance with regulations, policy and procedure recommendations.
Manages human and fiscal resources to facilitate effective nursing practices and qulaity patient care; organizes staffing for specialties in consideration of overall needs of the department. Assesses patient needs and staff qualifications when making staff assignments.
Establishes and maintains supply and equipment inventory levels in specialty areas to ensure items are available when needed and in the appropriate amounts.
Serves as a preceptor and resource, provides in service education, and participates performance improvement activities as needed. Conducts performance evaluations, counsels staff with disciplinary issues, and maintains relevant personnel documentation. Provides effective opportunities for growth and development of staff by identifying educational needs and developing learning experiences in collaboration with clinical instructor.
Facilitates and participates in education, research and process improvement activities. Takes responsibility to understand and complete professional and technical requirements and provides the necessary documentation on such requirements. Participates in research projects.
Contributes to the department positive public image by serving as an active member in professional organizations.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Knowledge and understanding of nursing and patient care standards and procedures.
Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies; hospital and department and unit standards, protocols, policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care applicable to the area of assignment.
Knowledge of medical terminology; principles and practices of health promotion, risk reduction, illness and disease prevention and management; medications and drugs, common dosages, their physical and physiological effects, and possible adverse reactions.
Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
Skill in the use of computers and related software applications.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide-range of constituencies.
Ability to observe changes in the medical condition of patients and effectively communicate these changes to other nursing staff members and physicians.
Ability to provide age -specific, quality, patient-centered care to all patients through the nursing process and standards of nursing practice with sensitivity and respect for the diversity of human experience and to develop, evaluate, implement and, as necessary, modify a patient care plan to meet the needs of individual patients

Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
1-2 Years experience in hospital or surgical setting highly preferred
